Does anyone ever have their cursor move spontaneously? The one on my computer at work does it. Every once in a while it just starts walking. Left, right, up or down. On Tuesday, I had selected a dozen files and just when I went to click on them to drag them to another folder, my cursor dropped, and I clicked on a different file.

Just one of the many problems that endear me to Microsquash.

Sometimes, and I can't figure out why the fuck this happens, I'll be trying to post a comment to lj, and my browser will throw me back about four pages previous to the 'make a comment' page. I don't think I need to detail how much a pain in the arse that is.

Several reasons this happens & appropriate "fixes":

Optical / Digital Mouse:

- Tiny hairs (ie eyelash, eyebrow) or dust in the optical mouse sensor
-> remove 'em

- Mousewheel / navigator buttons' use triggers insane autoscrolling
-> run point32.exe or "IntelliPoint" to restore / assign proper functionality

- USB, PS/2 or COM port malfunctioning
-> remove mouse plug from port, re-insert (clean if necessary).. use different port, with an adapter if not solved.. alternatively, remove and replace serial card

Standard / Analog Mouse:

- Internal rollers covered in dust/gook, mouse ball sticking
-> remove mouseball, clean it & roller surfaces

- Loose gears / internal workings
-> Replace mouse

Both:

- Computer is infected with a Trojan Horse virus
-> Disconnect all internet functionality, disinfect as advised by symantec.com or contact someone geeky like myself.

.. I've never met a mouse problem I couldn't solve, though I have gone through perhaps 7 mice since I bought my first computer in 96.

standard mouse

Other than the virus thing, I can't see how that would make it happen.

Our computer guru frequently takes control of a system someone is working on from his unseen lair to do stuff to that system, and it can freak the person out for a bit. That is the only time I have noticed casper taking over the computer.
