You may have noticed an icon next to comments in your journal, that have an eye with a line though it. This is for screening comments.
You now have a setting on your personal info page that you can use to ensure that comments made to your posts don't appear to the general public until you say so.
You can configure your account to "screen" anonymous comments, non-friend comments, or all comments. Those comments are only visible to you initially, and only after you explicitly view them by clicking the "Screen post" in your comments page. If the comment is good, you can click the eye icon and everyone will be able to see it. If it's a harassing comment, you can either delete it or leave it unscreened. You can also click the eye with a red slash through it to turn a visible comment into a screen comment.
