Any HR people out there? Our paychecks will soon be delivered one day later than they used to be. They said this is due in part to IRS guidelines. Does anyone have any idea what sort of guidelines they're referring to?

That is interesting because before I left my past employment the exact same thing happened with the same excuse. When we asked what IRS guidelines they spouted off some accounting practice that made it impossible to deliver the checks on the original day of payment...something like that. It was all very inconvenient because we got paid on Thursday and then when they turned pay day into Friday some people with direct deposit didn't really get to use their money until Saturday or even Monday if their bank was slow in processing direct deposit.

Good luck and let us know what you find out...

I doubt if I'll find out. For one thing, the directive came down from corporate. For another, our HR has been harassed about it all day, and will not take kindly to any more questions.

so, are they just changing your normal payday?........they can keep the money for an extra day that way.......

it's always easier to blame the IRS........LOL........

i honestly doubt there are new rules that say to only pay on friday.............and these are "guidelines".........guidelines are not rules, they are just ideas

That was the obvious excuse, but I'm curious what the IRS could have said, and how the company could have twisted it.

Hmm... IRS guidelines that mandate only Friday pay, or that mandate one day later than the original payday. In that case all of us Fridays would be pushed back to Saturday.

I doubt there is any such thing, but I bet there is a CORPORATE INTERPRETATION of some guidline that allows them to change the paydate.

Yeah, I'm sure it isn't anything specific. That's why I'm so interested in what the IRS said - I'm curious what they could have said, that the company feels comfortable in blaming them.

I bet you still have to get your timesheet in on the same early day of the week, but wait an extra day for pay, right? I suspect the payroll people want an extra day to process the timesheets.

What day will they be delivered now? I'm searching for stuff, this is all I've found so far related to the IRS and what day paychecks go out:

For paydays on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday, the deposit will be due by the Wednesday after the payday. For all other paydays, the deposit will be due by the Friday following payday.

"The deposit" is when employers have to deposit the part of your pay that is withheld for tax purposes.

I'll keep looking.

It moved from wednesday to thursday. Be sure to keep your eyes open for anything that sounds vaguely like it might be possible to use as an excuse. ;-)

Thanks Mel.
