The proper response to someone who says "this is America. If you don't like it, get the hell out," is, "the American court system ruled that the Pledge is wrong. If you don't like it, get the hell out. Go somewhere where they'll let you practice your religion. Oh yeah, they do let you practice your religion, so shut the hell up."

da Pledge

"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the state of Wisconsin and the state for which it stands; one state, under Joe McCarthy, indivisible, with beer and brats for all"

I think "higher power" would work for me... That might please some atheistic Dead-head out there, too ;)

Emil Durkheim said it best, and I paraphrase badly: "Religion is the veneration of society." When we deify the state, we diminish our freedoms... I don't think Tom Jefferson intended God to be removed from our patriotism, but he probably would have agreed witht he 9th Circuit Court... (except during and election year)...

American court system?.......actually, just 3 federal judges.....and you can bet, there's going to be a pile of appeals

this is gonna be a long battle......it will be emotional and expensive......just imagine, if the resources that will expended for this battle were to be used for the public good......if all the emotion, work, dollars, etc. were used for education or infrastructure rehab or disease control....but nooooooo, the fight will line the pockets of a pile of lawyers.....and after they get done, at the supreme court, the lawyers for both sides will go to dinner, tell jokes and have a fresh cuban cigar for dessert......e

If we end up keeping "under god" I'll be unhappy. If we end up losing it, I'll be happy. But not very much so, in either case.

i don't think it's worth the effort.......

our state legislature was just pulled back into "special session".......so far, it has cost 300K.....if that money would have been alloted to parks, they wouldn't have needed to go back.....i just hate watching people waste the public's money in the name of the public good, or for what's politically correct......
