Pro-Life's Ugly New Tactic: "Abortioncam"
--------------------------------------------
Frustrated by the stalemate that seems to have settled over abortion, a handful of local pro-life activists are turning to a new technique - posting photographs of abortion clinic clients on their websites.

"It's a tactic I only use once in a while," says long-time pro-life activist Paul deParrie, who has published photos of clinic clients and workers on his website, portlandporcupine.com. "Its just one of my bag of tricks"

DeParrie, who has taken roughly three dozen photos of clients in the last two years, says the idea is to "shame" women into shunning abortions.
"Its a method that makes people think about what they're doing," he told Willamette Week. "Most people, although they claim to be excercising a constitutional right, know it is not their finest hour. And they know, deep down, what they're doing is evil. My job is to make them understand their sins will come back to haunt them when they face God"

The proliferation of so-called "abortioncams," highlighted last week by the Wall Street Journal, is the work of a small number of pro-life activists who do not represent the majority of pro-lifers. Members of Oregon Right to Life quoted from a statement reiterating the organization's "longstanding opposition to the use of force, intimidation and violence by any person pursuing pro-life activities."

Activists from around the country post images of clients and workers on christiangallery.com, which also features bloody photographs and detailed personal information, including birthdates and addresses, of doctors who perform abortions.

Pro-choice advocates deplore the technique. "I think it's despicable," says David Greenberg, executive director of Planned Parenthood of the Columbia/Willamette. "Americans have come to expect their health care will be private and confidential. But women have endured much greater harassment than photographs in the past. I think it's likely to make people more angry than scared."

To some degree, the abortioncam movement reflects a rising impatience among activists like deParrie with the strategy adopted by more mainstream pro-life groups such as Oregon Right to Life, which seek to win over pregnant women through persuasion, rather than intimidation.

"Quite frankly, I don't care if I win allies," deParrie says. "I want to change the women's minds. The tactics that seem harshest are the most effective. I'm not concerned about the mother's feelings. I'm not in the business of saving the mothers. I'm in the business of saving babies from the mothers."

Approximately 14,000 abortions were performed in Oregon last year, compared with 44,725 live births, according to preliminary figures from the Department of Human Services. This figure includes medical abortions, which are induced with the drug RU-486, as well as surgical abortions.

Nothing PISSES me off more than people who assume women go thru this sad process without even THINKING about it!

Then to violate the privacy of our medical decisions....omg..but he makes his intentions very clear with this statement. It says it all:
"...I'm not concerned about the mother's feelings. I'm not in the business of saving the mothers. I'm in the business of saving babies from the mothers."

I'm not interested in commenting any further on this twisted thinking. :(

He's in the business of forcing his religion and morality on other people. His tactics are aimed at making weak-willed people do things they otherwise wouldn't do. Fuck him.
