I'm not sure about the fiasco in Florida, but keeping that aside, I believe Bush was elected fairly (as any other president, anyway) and according to the rules of our country.

I think there was something very smelly about that last presidential election, which was so "close" it had to be settled in the courts. It exposed many problems in our hodge-podge system. We need a standard national ballot, a standard national voter registration system, non-partisan election observers so large numbers of poor blacks won't be turned away from the polls, and the electorial college needs to be put to rest. I'm not saying Bush is illegitimate, however. yes, he won the election "according to the rules of our country." I have a problem with the rules, the weaknesses of which were only exposed because the election was so close.

I like the idea of states having a unified voice in electing the president. It also means the candidates have to consider issues that affect our state if he wants our votes. On the other hand, given that each state has a number of votes commensurate with its population, maybe it's a wash.
