amortize (AM-er-tize, uh-MOR-tize)
1. To liquidate (a debt, such as a mortgage) by installment payments or payment into a sinking fund.
2. To write off an expenditure (office equipment, for example) by prorating over a certain period.

On Sunday a friend of mine kept saying, "AM-uh-tor-ize," kind of like "amateurize." Before I looked it up today, I said A-mor-tize, with a long A, but at least I didn't add any syllables. So I was trying not to let it bother me, but then today I overheard a conversation where someone else pronounced it exactly the same way. And the person he was speaking with said it just as badly, but I can't remember just how.

*sigh*

Well, remember these are the BUSH years - any form of mispronunciation goes!

It appears America likes having a president with the lowest IQ of all - it is co-dependent issue really. He can mispronounce words till the cow's come home because he is cute and needs their support. Yak.

I've never used the word myself, but I'm glad I know the right way to say it for when I do. =)
