strange things going on

This weird thing has been going on with me lately. I've been cleaning and organizing. You may have noticed that we've been cleaning a lot at Cyn's, but it's been going on here too.

I'm taking a sabbatical from gaming. I used to get together with the guys every Wednesday night for Shadowrun, but my life was getting too far behind, so I had to take a break. It's only one night a week, but I've been doing really well. I've got a few areas of my house cleaned up - some of which never have been clean. There's part of my living room that has had some boxes piled there since I moved in, more or less, that I've cleared out (more or less). And I'm keeping my kitchen table clear. I didn't think that would ever happen. I've also had my checkbook balanced since August. Prior to that, I think I had balanced it twice ever.

I've still got a ways to go, but I'm pleased with what I've done so far.

The really weird part is not simply that I've been cleaning, it's that I'm starting to get obsessive about it. I have always been rather anal retentive about cleaning and organizing. the thing is, people don't belive that, because I always have things in such a mess. The reason for that is because I can't get it the way I want it - I can't get it clean enough - so I leave it alone. Now since it is clean already, it is easier to keep clean, so I do. My kitchen table was so close to perfect last night, that I spent a few extra minutes making it so - at midnight. When I was telling myself to go to bed, I wasn't listening. Now that I know exactly how much money is in my checking account, and my direct deposited paychecks have been very regular, I find my self mapping out exactly which day of the month I will pay each bill. And I find myself getting antsy to pay them early, just because I can.

I'm a little curious what will happen when I go back to gaming. Has that one day per week really made a difference, or will this cleaning binge continue? Am I really organizing my time better? Will I get to those other projects before spring?

(My three main cleaning projects are: desk, sun porch and basement. I'm putting the sun porch off until it gets warmer, but when it gets warmer I'll have outdoor projects. Since some of my flowers are blooming, I'm starting to get psyched up for spring, but it's still below freezing, so I can't really get started with anything.)

I guess there are worse things than cleaning to be obsessed about.

I was really tired last night, but I paused at my half-finised pile of receipts and seriously thought about finishing sorting them before going to bed. But my common sense won out and I crawled into bed.

it's said, one should tour thru their "stuff" once every 3 years to see if it still has the significance that it once did......if it doesn't, get rid of it......

you could just have a bad case of spring cleaning fever.....

That's about right. And every time I go through something, I do get rid of a bunch.

I don't think I've ever known exactly how much money I have.

I *can* be tidy on occasion, but I have three other people who make a mess in my house while I'm out.
