John Walker trained at a couple of al-Qaida terrorist training camp, joined the Taliban and fought in their war.

Seems like kind of a roundabout way to accuse someone of terrorism. I don't believe the Taliban was a terrorist organization. I believe they supported a terrorist organization, but you can't convict all of its members of it. That's like accusing all Enron employees of fraud.

I think in truth, they had to convict him of something. And, this was the closest law we could stick on him.
