Bush signed a public school reform bill. Seems decent.

Most of it sounds good. I'm glad to see that the voucher part was dropped. I'm always leery when I see talk of Standardized Testing. What I've witnessed of it so far, is that it doesn't work well. The teachers end up teaching exclusively toward the tests, rather than a full and interesting curriculum, just to make the numbers look good and move the kids on.

Yeah I'm hesitant when it comes to evaluating a school based on Standardized Testing, too. But, since more funding goes to schools that fail to improve, I wonder if we'll get any weird teacher-student conspiracies to get a school more money. "Now kids, we want you to do really badly this year, so you can get a new playground next year." ;)

Yeah, but I think they thought of that. They said the bill allows form "restaffing" if it goes on too long.

It still worries me, but I don't think there is a perfect answer.

Too bad they can't "restaff" some of the parents in some of the homes. That can be more of the problem than bad teachers.
