I'm getting a fender for $40, and a headlight for $65.

Sixty five dollars?! It's a lens, and a plastic housing. Okay, two, since the turn signal is connected to it. But still. It lists new at $150, but this is salvage.

I'm going to take off tomorrow afternoon to do the fender, but they won't have the light in until maybe Wednesday. I have until Friday to get the light fixed to avoid paying a ticket. If I don't get it fixed by then, I can get an extension (it was a 15 day warning), but I really need to get it fixed before I go up north this weekend.

the big salvage yards (junkyards are we used to call them) around here charge 50% of list for an undamaged part off a used car.......and sometimes, prolly half in my limited experience, you have to do the part removal yourself! The only added advantage of this, is that you do get to keep pop the screws and other fastenings into your pocket.....

The yards around here now do all the work. So I guess I'm paying for that. And shipping, in this case. I hope it is decent.

The fender is only $40, but it has some rust on it. the guy on the phone said "surface rust," but who knows what that really means.

LOL.........surface rust....

sounds like a bit of sanding and priming might be required before installation.....unless you have plans to sell the car soon........

No, I'm gonna keep it until it dies (or at least until it costs more to fix it that new car payments would cost).

I'm not sure what I'll do about painting it. I didn't ask what color this one is going to be, but I can't imagine it will match. And if it has surface rust like I imagine it will, the rust condition will match my car. I'd like to have the whole thing repainted, but that's expensive. Oh well.

i don't wanna sound like a commercial, but there is some stuff called POR-15 that works good on some rusted stuff.....you might check out a local supplier......and an easy search will pop up their web addy......i myself, drive a car with body cancer....gets me to and fro to work and camping and skiing.....what more do i need?

I'll see. I have to decide what I'm gonna do about it. I might just leave it.

i figure i've got a few more years on the land cruiser......even with the rust holes.....if i put WORK into it......i might have to keep it longer.....if i get a new vehicle, then i prolly won't be hauling rock inside and i might worry about a few brush marks offroad........
