Did I mention the wind was about 40mph and steady yesterday? That's what it seemed like anyway. I was standing in my kitchen and the door to the sunporch opened a little bit by itself. I thought that was odd since all my storm windows were shut. This morning I realized that my back door had blown open. The forecast say diminishing winds tonight - reducing to 10 to 20 mph.

5 or 6 thousand people without power in Milwaukee. Many more across Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. Winter storm hit North Dakota. Several people dead. Hopefully that one will pass north of here.

We had high winds here earlier in the week. I work on the 36th flower of an office tower, and the winds were really battering the building. It was quite eerie... but neat :)

it's amazing to me.........that people die in winter storms.....i can't fathom it.......i understand deaths due to auto crashes, or a light pole falling on a person........but i don't understand freezing to death......a smidgen of common sense, and that will never happen

I know that back in the pioneer days, people died in blizzards just a few feet from the edge of their house or barn. They couldn't see it while stumbling around blinded, and gave up.

My great uncle Ray used to live in Alaska. He said that there was so little wind up there, that you'd see four feet of snow on top of fence posts.
