My friend Derek, who you may recall, had the tumor on his spine, is coming home on Thursday. It’s been five weeks. Today he walked thirty feet with his walker. He was happy about that. He’s not so happy that he might not get complete use of his ankles back, and might have to wear ankle braces. In three weeks he starts radiation treatments to get rid of the rest of the tumor. He goes in every day for at least four weeks. It’s not going to be really bad, like chemo can be, but I still don't envy him.

Yeah, It's good.

Fortunately, the radiation treatment doesn't sound too severe. I asked if it would set his PT back too far, but he said it shouldn't affect him too badly, on that account.


What are you doing up?

I try to, but my mind fills up with stuff and I am wide awake again...
I have been up since 12am this morning....=(

Best wishes to Derek. The radiation will be a lot easier than chemo. Now, with so many different energies of radiation that can be used, it's much easier to create treatment plans as individual as the patient and their needs.

Good thoughts for his continued recovery. Radiation is my bag....let me know if you need to talk.

Dealing with the walker and crutches and everything will probably be worse than the radiation.
