I've uploaded 3 GB of pictures, in trying to get my troop's site set up. How am I supposed to set it up, if I exceed my monthly quota in less than a week?

Shitheads. How the hell is anyone supposed to come to my site and click on their banners if I can't set it up?

Personally, I don't think there's any way he uploaded that much. That's impossible. I know I didn't scan 3 gigs worth of pics for him. I think there's something messed up there. 3 megs maybe but not 3 gigs.

Would it have to do will accessing the site, or with modifying it? Is that couted as "data transfer"?

Suppose it's both. If you uploaded 3Mb of pictures and downloaded them to a browser to test they were ok, and the same for 512k of HTML, that's 7Mb total traffic (discounting the overhead for the ftp and http protocols - not worth worrying about). You've still got 1017Mb to use before you get to 3Gb.

If you have 390 visitors who look at every page and picture, that would get you to 3Gb. Seems unlikely...

If you look at a page with a picture you've looked at before, it's probably cached, so wont be transfered again. You can usually tell if it got reloaded by how quickly it appears. Cached pictures are pretty instantaneous, but if it has to reload you can see a delay even on a fast connection because pictures are relatively big.

If you hit the browser reload button, it should transfer it again, cached or not, but some browsers just reload the HTML, not the pics.

BTW - 3Mb / 20 files = 153.6kb / file. Not unlikely, but a little big. For comparison, this (fairly small) picture is 25kb:

Not that I know of. Everytime I've gone to my site it's come up. I think they just blanket e-mailed everyone. I don't think they will shut us down.
