kitchen remodel 19
Sep. 8th, 2021 10:34 pmMudded the drywall tonight. Some of it.
It took a little bit to put plastic out. Then I taped and mudded the patch above the stove. Then I taped and mudded the ex-soffits on the west side of the room. I'm using mesh tape instead of paper tape, in case anybody was wondering (j/k, I know you're not wondering). On the west wall I used the mesh tape along the corner at the ceiling. It seemed to work pretty well.
Then I remembered that I had bought some metal inside corner beads (I guess it's not a "bead" if it's for the inside corner, but I forget what they call them), so I put those up. Then I was just about out of joint compound. I never thought that bucket would empty! And I have to buy more mud. Hopefully I can get away with just a gallon. Seems like I started with less than a gallon, but I'm not sure. And not sure how much more I'll need, compared to what I've used.
Anyway, after doing those corner beads, I taped the rest of that side of the room, and called it quits. Spent a while cleaning up.
One problem I discovered - some of my joints are too wide. When Bill cut down the soffits, he went in with the saw at an angle. I left it that way, with my drywall butted up against it. But I should have cut those angled edges perpendicular, because they're now too wide. If I put too much mud in, it pushes down the mesh tape, and/or runs through it. There was one spot that was really wide, that I jammed some drywall scrap into.
I'm taking some or all of tomorrow off work to continue.
