kitchen remodel 18
Sep. 7th, 2021 11:21 pmBack to it.
I was really dreading starting again. While I was working on it before, it was a pain, but I just did what had to be done. What I had to do tonight wasn't even tough, but I really didn't want to do it.
I replaced the drywall behind where the microwave was mounted. There were many holes and anchors in it. It looked awful. So I bought a couple of small pieces of 1/2" drywall. Note: two 2' x 2' pieces cost the same as one 4' x 8' piece. And it seems a bit thinner than what's on the wall. But that's all done, and tomorrow night I do mud.
I was unhappy with myself. I knew I needed to put plastic sheeting on the floor before I painted. And I would have realized the same before doing the joint compound (it's very sloppy). But it didn't occur to me to do that before making dust tonight. And as I was thinking about this, I realized the best way would have been to do the floor last, to avoid any damage to the new flooring. In the original plan, all the drywall was going to be done by the time the flooring went it.
And there are a lot dirty footprints on the floor. Not sure what that's all about. I hope this doesn't have to become a shoes-off household. That would require a huge adjustment.
Made the second downpayment on the countertops today. Went to the shop to look at our slab. They need us to verify that it's OK before they proceed. Not really an issue with our manufactured quartz slab, but I guess people can get unhappy when they see what their giant slab of natural stone actually looks like.
