kitchen remodel 8
Aug. 24th, 2021 11:07 pmLast night I didn't do much except clean up the garage. I pulled nails out of the scrap wood. I'll either use it as lumber or split it and use it as kindling. After that I cut a couple of pieces of drywall, but didn't install them.
Tonight I put up the last few pieces of drywall. The ones I cut last night, I had to take another quarter of an inch off. But I got them up, and even did a little mudding.
I got my (really) old bucket of joint compound out, added some water to soften it up, and put up a short corner bead. I had to carve away the surface of the drywall so it would match the corner below it. I'm afraid I'm going to have to do that a lot. I measured some of the old wall board, and it seemed to be well over half-inch, so I got 5/8". But in places it's much thicker than what was there. I hope the molding covers that difference, and I don't have to pare down the thickness much.
Then I decided to patch a hole. It's where I removed the light from over the sink. There were two large holes. I first thought I would remove a piece that was about 4" high by 32" wide. But then I realized the difference in thickness would be a problem, so I just patched a 4" x 4" spot (the bigger of the two holes). I had to remove the back of the piece to get it to the proper thickness. I'm going to tile over it, so it doesn't have to be perfect, but I also don't want the tile sticking out over it.
Tomorrow evening, gotta buy paint and primer. Maybe see how much mud I can get on the walls. Thursday and Friday nights are for removing the lower cabinets. It would be nice to get a coat of paint on the walls behind them, and the new lowers are supposed to be installed on Sunday.
