Our Friend Jae did in early October. Since then, several people that we knew, albeit a bit peripherally have died. All in December, I guess.
Cousin Shirley was 82. She died of cancer, on her birthday. She had told us she'd had a pretty good run. The end came quickly, since last summer she told us her end of life plans would start after the new year.
A friend's mother died. She was... 92? She'd had surgery, then rehab, then she died. I don't know the story yet.
My stepsister and stepbrother lost their father. My dad's second wife's kids. He was 72, and died suddenly, without warning. After he died they found his notes about what the doctor told him, including a calcium problem. He didn't share his medical details with his wife. His best friend had died three weeks before.
I got a call today from the friend whose mother died. He said that one of our former boy scouts had died. He was 39.
