In October, when we had the flooded basement, every time I walked up the stairs, I saw the cellar spider near the top step. I generally don't kill spiders in the house, so I left it. Last week I realized it was still there.
Today, I noticed that it was gone.
I'm not a superstitious person, but this being January 1, I wonder if this has portents of 2020.
Is this household going to lose things that spiders symbolize? Did it capture things (good or bad) from 2019, and departed with them? Did it protect us, and it no longer will, or it no longer needs to? Is its work done, and what was that work?
See, this is why I'm not superstitious - there are dozen of ways to apply some symbolism. Doubtless, in hindsight I'll be able to come up with a few that applied to this year.
