I got my DNA test results back from Ancestry.com. It's interesting.

My dad's dad's parents both came here (separately) form Denmark. So that makes me one quarter Danish, or so I've always said. The test tells me I've got 27% Scandinavian DNA.

My dad's mother's family comes from deep in the hills of Kentucky. Likely mostly Scottish, but also who knows what. Her family name was Little, and that's a Scottish name. I got 46% Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales).

My mom's mom said she was mostly Irish, but there was other stuff too, and possibly English. I got 10% Irish, and she probably contributed some of that 46% English, and maybe Scottish.

My mom's dad's parents came here from Germany. Mom tells me they said dinner time prayer in German. I got 4% western Europe. So that's perplexing.

I got 4% Iberian peninsula (Spain, Portugal), 3% eastern Europe, 2% Italy/Greece and 4% Middle East (Turkey, Iran, Iraq, not Saudi Arabia).

Many Irish people have some Iberian DNA, so maybe that's where I get that from? And probably most Europeans have some blood from the Romans, so that's my 2% Italy/Greece? And the Middle East is the cradle of civilization, so pretty much everyone has some of that?

I was mildly surprised I have no Native American or African DNA. I've heard a lot of Americans have either, especially if they're from Appalachia (like Grandma's family) or the South.
