artist bio
Jan. 1st, 2012 09:08 pmI'm on Flickr. It's a photo community. tens of thousands of users, and millions of photos. It's on the scale of a blogging service, like LJ, but it's just photos. You post pictures, add descriptions or whatever, and tags. It's a great search engine if you're looking for pictures of something. You have contacts who you hope will look at your photos, and you look at theirs. And you add your photos to groups. There's a group (or several) for just about any subject imaginable. That's a good way to get more exposure.
I added a picture of a lighthouse to a Flickr group associated with the World Lighthouse Society. And then they had a little contest, so I entered it. I'm one of the winners, and they're going to feature it in their quarterly newsletter. The admin requested "a high resolution copy of the photo, along with a brief bio about yourself and anything you would like to add about the photo, such as why you chose it for your subject matter, or anything else you might think would be of interest to our members."
So now I've got to come up with some kind of bio, like I'm professional or something. I was thinking of, "Kevin is an amateur photographer living in Wisconsin, US. He enjoys landscape and travel photography. This is Point Retreat Lighthouse on Admiralty Island, outside Juneau Alaska."
