I went to bed a little after 12:30, last night. It took me forever to fall asleep. And then Cyn got up some time after 2:00, which woke me up again. Then at 4:00, she heard a strange noise. I wasn't fully awake yet, so I didn't think anything of it when she went to find out what it was. After a minute, I decided it sounded like the sump pump.
She came back to report that the pump wasn't turning off. Not good. I had to unplug it. The water softener was cycling, which discharges into the sump. A little while later, I went back down to unplug the other sump, which I remembered also discharges into the first sump. Since I didn't plan on getting up every half hour to plug the pump back in, I had to minimize the flow of water into it.
I really wasn't happy about this. I had just worked on the other pump, but this one is sealed with plexiglass because of radon. That means I'd have to cut the plexiglass to get it out, and then have to cut a new piece to put back in.
So I lied in bed thinking about all of this, and just as I was drifting off to sleep, Escher started moaning in the family room, and woke me up.
By the time I got around to checking the sump in the morning, it was mostly full. So I plugged in the pump, and it ran and then shut off like it was supposed to. :-|
That's good, but I still feel like it may do it again at any time. I guess I'll wait and see if it does it again, and if it does, I'll replace it then.
