My grandparents were rockhounds. My grandpa had several slabs of marble that he never used. About ten years after he died, we moved grandma out of their house, and my dad took the marble. As a wedding present to Cindy and me, my dad made a coffee table out of one of the slabs of marble. It matches our dining room set - except for the marble. And that I have to stain and varnish it. I was surprised at how close he got it to the dining room table. I asked it to match, as in not clash. But he made it exactly like it. He even bought a lathe to make the legs. I'm not sure he'd ever used one before.

It's all very cool.

My cousin has some large dogs. One of them is a husky. She'd had it for thirteen years. It attacked her. Nobody knows why. She had a lot of stitches in her arms and chest. The dog was going for her neck, but she was able to stay standing for a while, just out of reach. When she fell, she ended up above the dog, and was able to grab a rock and beat it enough that it stopped attcking her.

Animal Control took it away. They kept it for ten days, for observation. She knows it has to be put to sleep, because they don't know why it attacked, but she feels bad, because it had been her pet for over a decade. Fair enough. But get this: A couple of her coworkers are giving her a hard time about killing the poor animal. Way to make her feel. What could anyone possibly do with this dog? You'd have to keep it locked up away from people for the rest of its life. What's the point? I'm sorry, but I believe in euthanasia.

EDIT: If you disagree with me that euthanasia is acceptable in general, I do respect your choice. Your pet: your choice.
