It sounds pretty likely that LiveJournal will be sold. I'm not very happy about the prospect. I'm not saying the sky is going to fall. I don't think anything much is going to change - certainly not in the short term - but I'm a little worred about the future of this place. Up until now, I think Brad has been trying to keep LJ as good as it can be because that's how he feels it should be run. I don't get the feeling that the new owners will have the same motiviation. I don't know anything about them, except that they have a couple of other blogging products to sell. I worry that LJ could suffer if they feel that their other product needs promotion. Like, maybe that they wouldn't make any great improvements to the customizability of journals, because that is the forte of another of their products, for example. And now that it is clear that LiveJournal is a commodity, profitablility will be seen as more important than attracting users. That's a whole different way to run this business.
