Warren Zevon died yesterday.

He sure had gotten a lot of publicity in the last year, since he announced his cancer. It's too bad that's what it took.

what I learned yesterday: bees

I've always gotten along well with bees. I was only stung once before. If they buzz too close around me, I gently push them away with my hand. I don't swat at them, because I don't want to make them mad. The one time I was stung, I didn't realize it was a bee, and trapped it against my skin.

Last night, when I saw a bee near me, I tried my usual tactic. What I didn't realize was that this bee really did want to be near me, and wouldn't take no for an answer. It was angry at having its nest raked open. What I should have done was gotten the hell out of there.

Here's the lesson: stir up a bees nest, run away.
