When I discuss politics with conservative people, especially regarding war, they always seem to get angry with me. They seem to hold me and everyone like me reponsible for what they feel is the horrible state of our nation. They use derisive language against us. They hold us in contempt.

Here's what upsets me about the deal. I don't hate someone just because he's conservative. I generally don't hate people for promoting conservative causes. I don't think someone is a moron for believing something that I disagree with. These are complex issues. We all make a choice about which aspects are important to us. Just because we might overlook some aspects, it doesn't mean we're stupid. And when it comes down to it, we are all trying to do what's best for this country (except, of course, for those in the Bush administration), so I have to have some level of respect for my fellow citizens, even though they're working against what I think is best.

I tend to believe that most of my friends feel the same way, to some degree. But many conservatives that I know seem not to reciprocate this respect. This makes me upset. I begin to hate conservatives. Not for their conservatism, but for their lack of respect, tolerance and understanding.

I'm listening to Uriah Heep. And I'm enjoying it.

Sometimes when I friend someone, it is quite a while before I realize his or her spouse is on LJ too. Some couples don't have much contact her in LJland. Sometimes I just don't catch the significance.

"Significant other" refers to husbands, wives, partners, boyfriends, girlfriends, etc.
