George Bush feels that there should be laws against things that he feels are sins, even though nobody can be hurt by such things.

Q – Mr. President, many of your supporters believe that homosexuality is immoral. They believe that it's been given too much acceptance in policy terms and culturally. As someone who's spoken out in strongly moral terms, what's your view on homosexuality?

THE PRESIDENT: Yes, I am mindful that we're all sinners, and I caution those who may try to take the speck out of their neighbor's eye when they got a log in their own. I think it's very important for our society to respect each individual, to welcome those with good hearts, to be a welcoming country. On the other hand, that does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage. And that's really where the issue is heading here in Washington, and that is the definition of marriage. I believe in the sanctity of marriage. I believe a marriage is between a man and a woman. And I think we ought to codify that one way or the other. And we've got lawyers looking at the best way to do that.

ADDITION:
"That does not mean that somebody like me needs to compromise on an issue such as marriage." What does that mean? What would a compromise mean to this man? That he'd marry a man? What does "someobody like me" mean? Does it mean, the president?

My mom says we got two inches of rain between 5:00 yesterday and 6:00 tonight. Much of that came between four and five this afternoon. It was pretty nasty out, for a little bit.

First, I noticed where the water had come in on my basement steps, like it does when it rains hard from the west. Then I noticed the window in my sunprch was open - little, if any, damage. Later, I noticed more of my flowerbed has washed away. There are lily of the valley roots lying above the soil. There was almost an inch of dirt at the end of the sidewalk. And teh rain really beat down some of my flowers. Then I noticed how wet it was around my basement window. Crap.

Sure enough - the whole basement was wet. There's a low spot there, which fills up with water, and eventually pours under the window into the basement. Usually this happens at night, and I am able to partially contain the flood, and direct it to the drain. No such luck this time. In fact, there was a bit of a blockage on the floor in front of the drain, and there was water almost everywhere in the entire basement. Then I looked back in teh back corner, and there was over and inch of standing water. I'm glad I checked there. I had plugged the floor drain (for reasons I can't quite remember), so I had to reach through the spiderwebs into the scummy water to take out the plug. I can't complain too much, since I had just cleaned the basement the weekend before last. I can't imagine the carnage there would have been, otherwise. I only lost four boxes (two empty). It was funny when I picked one up, and the water ran out of the cardboard, drawing air into the corrugations - whoosh! I was kind of bummed though, because I had intended to put a couple of those boxes on something, to get them off the floor, but had never gotten around to it. Oh well.

At least the lawns will green up again.
