disclosure
Jul. 30th, 2003 02:16 pmQuite often I write about my weekend, and I use the word "we" without saying exactly who was involved. Unless I say otherwise, I'm referring to my fiancee,
cynnerth.
I'm sure most of you know that, but just in case...

child credit
Jul. 30th, 2003 03:17 pmWhat is this tax credit for children costing us in terms of what it takes to mail it out? Why didn't they, instead of mailing checks out, simply include a tax cut in next year's tax code? This would save postage (for both the check, the letter explaining it, and the postage to re-mail checks to the people who have moved since they last filed), the cost of examining the tax records to determine who gets them, and printing costs.
Besides that, if it were a tax cut rather than a tax credit, we wouldn't have to have that low income limit, since nobody would recieve money who didn't pay any taxes.
What we've got is a taxpayer funded publicity stunt. And I'm not talking about the cost of the rebate itself.
