the Con

I got over seven hours of sleep last night. that was kind of nice. I got up a few minutes early today. Of course, work expands to fill available time, so I didn't get to work early, but it was nice to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast.

I'm leaving in a few minutes to go to Gen Con. It's a big gaming convention. It's all about fantasy and science fiction and role-playing games, board games, and card games.

I used to play games there, so I'd be there for twelve hours or more each of the four days. Lately, I haven't gotten any games so I just go to look around and buy things. the price keeps going up. I think it is $23 to get in the door for one day. That's outrageous just to look around in the dealers hall and the art show. I have to go, though. It's the last year here in Milwaukee, and I've been going every year since 1980. It wasn't too many years ago that it was $40 or $50 for a four day participant pass, and $6 a day for a visitor's pass. They've added enough events that the "visitors" can enjoy, that they've done away with the visitor's pass. There's still not much there that interets me, so $23 really sucks. Few of my friends are going anymore, and they are die-hard gamers.

very cool

Regarding unique interests, I just noticed that a friend of mine has an interests list made up of twenty six unique interests - one for each letter of the alphabet.

It was crappy, just like I imagined. I paid my $23 and wandered around the exhibit hall for an hour or more. I went down to the art show. There were some good artists there, but no one I really felt like conversing with. I went back up to the exhibit hall and spent a hundred dollars or so. (Some of it was for other people, though.) I left.

I gotta write Peter Adkinson and tell him his party sucks. I read in the program where the number one draw is the gaming. Huh? If I could get a game, I would have a good time. Gaming used to be the whole point. Not anymore.
