recovery

Derek was moved out of ICU yesterday afternoon, and seems to be recovering nicely. His mother called me. I didn't ask any details, but I assume if there had been bad news about the tumor she would have told me.

I spent too much time this morning e-mailing with my friends about plans to go down to visit him tonight. That would have been okay, but I also spent time e-mailing plans for scouts. So I think I should skip lunch break (and therefore LJ) today. It's not even noon, and I've already sent 20 messages. (Our customers' dollars at work.)

It's past my bedtime.

I won't be back until Monday (maybe Sunday night). Cindy and I are leaving to go camping in Michigan (Warren Dunes) on Friday morning, and I have to pack (and stuff) tomorrow night. I'm not sure how I'll manage. I think I'll have to take a half day off tomorrow.

I went to see Derek tonight. He seems to be doing pretty well. He has a twelve inch incision in his lower back. The tumor had grown up and down his spine - it wasn't a little ball. It wasn't malignant, but it hasn't been fully analyzed so he doesn't know what his recovery will take. He hopes to move out to rehab in a week or two. He still doesn't know if this was the cause of his recurring back problems.
