I picked up Larry at 1:30. I wasn't originally going to leave that early, but he's a bit nervous about things, so I moved it up. We drove to (Chicago) O'Hare. I parked offsite and we got a shuttle to the airport. We had a little more time than necessary, of course, even factoring how slowly Larry walked. But that's OK. I didn't really have anything else going on that day.

O'Hare

It was a seven hour flight. We arrived at 8:30 local time, which gave us all day to see Edinburgh. First we took the tram to our hotel. I got us off at the wrong stop (Edinburgh Park Central vs. Edinburgh Park stop), and we had to walk ten minutes to our hotel. Fortunately, Larry had data on his phone so we could look up where we were supposed to go. So we dropped our bags and got back on the tram to city centre.

Edinburgh Castle

We got off in view of Edinburgh Castle.

Anchor Close
Larry going up Anchor Close. They have many of these closes. They're basically pedestrian alleys, and they either cut between streets or lead to building entrances or squares.

St. Giles
St. Giles Cathedral. As usual, I didn't get many shots that show what things really look like, or where they are - just details.

We went up to the castle gate. Larry toured it himself after I went home.

We didn't get ice cream.

This former church has red doors. You can see them peeking around the edges of the yellow graphic that is hanging over them.

Larry wanted to stop several times for food, drink or just a rest. Late in the afternoon he decided he was done for the day. I sent him north to the tram, and I went south to see Greyfriars Kirkayrd.

Greyfriars Bobby

Outside the churchyard is a statue of Greyfriars Bobby, the dog that sat at his master's grave every day for fourteen years, until his own death. There was a line of people waiting for selfies, but I snuck in between them, barely slowing down to take this photo.

Greyfriars Kirkyard

There have been interments here since the 1500's.

I had gotten a little confused about how to get back, so that slowed me down, and I arrived back at our meeting place five minutes before Larry did.

I was in Edinburgh last year. I thought of you while visiting Old Calton Burial Ground. Now, if I could remember how to post photos on dreamwidth...
