I unclogged my bathtub drain last night. It had been that way for over a week. I tried fixing it last friday, but was unsuccessful. This was the first chance I've had to try again.

It was pretty gross. When I pulled the drain auger out of the pipe it had a huge glob of blackened hair on it. It looked like a big decayed mouse. And of course, I had to pick it off of the thing with my fingers.

Ewww... I'd hate to think what my drains look like. They're not clogged yet, but one is running a bit slow.

Hope it's okay I added you as a friend to my list. *smile*

A while back while showering I started using a washcloth to put my falling-out-hair on so it doesn't go down the drain and clog it up. After each shower or before the next one I just throw the hair in the waste basket. It seems to have helped the plumbing situation.

It's amazing to me how much hair I lose on a daily basis. But the hair on my head doesn't seem to be thinning or anything. Anyway, sounds like you had a blechh kinda night. But at least you perservered and succeeded.

I have a screen over the drain, and I'm sure it helps. Someone else I know has to unclog hers every couplethree months.

Actually it wasn't a bad night at all. I got all my appointed tasks for the evening done, except one, which I substitued another for (okay, I called a friend instead of doing the dishes, but it was a good thing anyway).

Ack, gross!!! (Like I don't have to do that fairly often myself...but I always hate it.)

But at least you can now take a bubblebath without fear:)

Without fear of a giant mess of black ooze bubbling out of my drain?

My cat sicks up fur balls mixed with cat food. I thought for ages they were part-digested mice. The fact that they're not doesn't make clearing them up much less revolting.

Each hair grows for a few years and then has a dormant phase, when it falls out and doesn't re-grow. The phase of each hair is a little different, so you lose a few every day, and a few start growing again.

The length of the phases varies greatly with ethnicity: if you're of European descent, it will grow for long ehough to get down below your waist, but in southern Asia, it may not get much below your shoulders.

When the tube trains stop at night in London, teams of "fluffers" go into the tunnels to pick up all the hair that passengers have left behind, to prevent it becoming a fire hazard.

Unbeliever! Remember to leave an extra offering to the god of fluff next time you're in any sort of tunnel.
