We got all the wood split yesterday. I was getting worried for a while, because the engine kept shutting down. It acted like it was running out of gas, and then it quit. It might start again right away, but not usually. Sometimes we only got a couple of splits made before it quit, and sometimes it would run for 20 or 30 minutes. I called the place I rented it from, and the guy told me it was bad gas. Like it had water in it. What Mobil sells bad gas? We were done by 3:00. One hour later than my original estimate, and we lost more than an hour due to engine troubles.
I definitely wasn't as quick as I'd been the day before. The first day I was tossing split logs backward over my shoulder. Yesterday, I'd have to get some leverage and build up momentum to toss them. I'm not as sore today as I expected. The evenings were rough after we were done. I had to stretch a lot of muscles, especially in my back. The worst part today was that my hands are stiff - fingers and wrists. No injuries though, aside from a little sunburn and a few scrapes on my knees. I kept hitting them with the jagged edges of logs.
Now I've got a lot more wood than I expected to have. It's so much bigger when it's split than it was in it's original, compact form! So now I have to figure out where to put it. I hope that once it is stacked, it will be compact enough to fit its space. If not, I don't where I'll put it. Right now I've got place for a few rows on each side of a pile of brush. I need to get that brush out, and maybe burn it. I'm taking the day off on Friday because we're having company on Saturday and I need to get ready for them. I hope I can start stacking this stuff, and at least get it off of the neighbor's lawn (one of the piles has spilled over).
