The Oaxaca airport, around sunrise.
Jose Luis picked me up at the airport in Monterrey. We stopped in a town called Cadereyta Jiménez for dinner, and took a look at the nearby church.

Then we went to a little town called San Juan, and saw The Cradle of Baseball in Mexico.

Apparently one of three towns in Mexico to make that claim.

Then he got his fishing pole, and we went out on the bridge.

It was very windy!

After a while, he decided it was too dangerous, so we headed for shore.

It seemed like it was 50 feet up. That was actually my estimate at the time. But looking at this photo, it couldn't have been 30 feet.

He still had no luck, so we drove up to the next bridge.

Old Ranch Bridge

These two didn't seem to be having any luck with their net.

This kid was just hanging out for a while.

In the little town.

Back on the freeway, near a toll gate, a nativity scene in front of a feed plant.

The refinery.

On the last night we were in town, he invited a coworker and me to dinner with him and his wife at their house. They made guac and tamales, and... I forget what the fat tamale-like things were called. Oh, and soup. And tequila, and a few Mexican candies.
