Milwaukee's basketball franchise, The Bucks won the NBA championship. It was 50 years ago that they last won (that was with Lew Alcindor on the team - Kareem Abdul Jabbar, before he was Kareem). So everyone has been really excited.
I first noticed around the beginning of the series before the final round. I still wasn't paying much attention during this final series. It wasn't until after their fifth game (best four of seven games) that I realized how close they were to winning it. And then I felt like, I wasn't paying attention before, and they were winning. I hope I don't jinx it! But they won it last night, four games to two.
The built a new arena a couple of years ago, and the area around it is a big plaza, with some bars, a beer garden, some big screens and whatnot, so that became party central - The Deer District. Early in the week they said they expanded it to allow 65,000 people to gather!
There's a parade tomorrow. It goes a couple of blocks from my office, so I thought I'd take a look, but now I don't think I'm going into the city.
I hear that people outside of Milwaukee are kinda making fun of Milwaukeeans for their excitement. Many of them are the same ones that live and die by the Packers. Others, I'm sure, are just jaded because their teams win so much. Let them have their fun! But seriously - fever pitch!
