I worked from home last Thursday, for whatever reason. I stayed home on Friday because it was snowing. I stayed home on Monday because I had an appointment in the afternoon. I stayed home today because it was snowing. Google told me the drive would be twice as long as usual. Plus, if I was home I could deal with the snow better - I went out to feed the birds before work, and I could shovel, if necessary.

Today we decided to take a quick break from work to go vote. The only race was state school superintendent. We decided we could make it out of the driveway without shoveling, but it turns out Cyn's car wouldn't start. The battery was dead (they told her last summer that the battery was getting old). So we had to take my car, but that meant I had to shovel first. Her car sits higher than mine, and has better tires for the snow. So I did a quick shovel, and we left.

After dinner, I dropped her off at the grocery store while I went to buy a new battery. I got back and helped finish shopping. Then I replaced the battery. Then I drove back to the store to turn the old one in for the deposit. Then I shoveled the driveway. The end is getting narrower and narrower. Drives me crazy.

The snow today collected mainly in drifts. There was a bare spot on the driveway, and the bird seed I put out on the snow in the back yard yesterday was still visible. But the drift on the back side of the house was very high. At least a foot of new snow on it. On the lower right, you can maybe see a bit of green. That's the heated birdbath. Snow usually collects on the rim, but this is the first I've seen the snow build up over the warm water.

I've never been anywhere with that much snow, and that includes a skiing trip to the Alps. I'm thankful and disappointed at the same time.

A friend of mine told me about staying at his grandfather's, miles from anywhere. He woke in an upstairs bedroom to see just snow - it had drifted to roof height on one side of the house. They opened the door to a wall of snow, and had to dig it into the kitchen to get out.

I've never seen snow like this at our house in the 16 years we've lived here!
