I wasn't really looking for any shows to get my work into, but a couple came up that seemed easy. First was a show at the Art*Bar in Milwaukee. The theme was black & white, and it seemed like anyone who entered would have their work featured. The second was our organization's own show on Gallery Night, where every member could exhibit one image. It's called Hit Us with Your Best Shot.

For the B&W show, I entered these four...

They're kindof arranged in order of my favorite.

watchers
Watchers. I like it because it has a mood. Emotional content is one of the keys to a good image.

done sweeping
This one also has a mood.

City Hall wrought iron
City Hall Ironwork. I like this one. The wrought iron is cool, but the shadows are my favorite part. And it got some interest on Flickr. But it's very static. I almost didn't submit it, but decided to go ahead and enter it because of that interest.

The Great Double
The Great Double is the name of this bronze sculpture. I figured since I was entering the previous one, I might as well enter this one too. I like it a lot, though it's also very static. I was pretty sure it wouldn't get in, since I think it's maybe kinda subtle. The sculpture has a certain interesting form and texture that set it off from the background. Then everything else is lines. The steps, the lines in the pavement, the railings (lines going two directions), the building has a verticality, and then the horizontal lines which are bent at angles. Then the trees offer a different texture in the middle ground breaking up the foreground from the background. Anyway, I like it.

So I was a little surprised that they chose the ironwork. I just got it framed, and I'll drop it off on Sunday. The show opens next Friday. So that'll be fun. Cyn's got one in too.

For the "Best Shot" show, I submitted this one:
Crumbling

I layered a texture in behind the image, which I took within that very scene. But I'm not happy with how it turned out. The one on Flickr is very small. I had to go back to the original and rebuild it, to get an image of high enough quality to print. But I couldn't get the color tone right. That is, like this one. So it's less sepia, and more more realistic. Which made some strange blue tones come out in the texture. And also, since it's going to be so big, I tried to put a graininess into it, and that doesn't look right in certain areas. If I'd tried it again right away when I got the print, I would have had time to redo it, but I was a little busy last week.

The next show is Portrait Milwaukee. It's put on by MKE Magazine, and open to members of our group (CoPA) and students at Alverno College. It's a little more... high end. I entered this one but I have no idea if I'll get in. It was like "enter a series of images from your portfolio." I'm like, what portfolio? But it was free to enter, so I thought what the heck.

I ordered the print, then entered the show, then received the print. I'm not happy with the print. It's not as sharp as I had hoped, and it came out too dark. Way darker than it looks on my monitor. I'm not sure how to deal with that. I guess I'll be needing some advice from my fellows.

There's one more show coming up that I'd love to get into. I should probably start printing now, to try to get a good image. Large prints aren't too expensive, but if you have to get multiples made, it adds up quickly.

I especially like the Best Shot image. I also loved your explanation of what you did.
