As mentioned, I planted the new garden yesterday.

After that we went to The HobNob supper club, south of Racine. We met Heather and Greg. I can't remember, was it an early birthday for Greg? We sat there just about all night. Appetizer, salad, soup, entree, dessert. Supper Clubs are an all-night sort of thing. But there's also a lot of food. If I'd stopped after the soup, I would have felt like I'd had a meal, but I would have needed a snack later at night. But then I had a big steak. It wasn't huge, but it was a lot of meat for me. When I was done with that, I was full. But then Cyn ordered dessert - ice cream with brandy poured over it. Not my favorite thing, but she wanted to split it. I don't think I had half of it, but I was practically in pain afterwards. Recently I decided that instead of a sugary dessert, I'd just have a glass of Scotch as my dessert. But even more recently, I decided I needed to cut down on that stuff. Maybe I should have had another old fashioned instead.

We got home around 10:00. After a while I went on the NordicTrac to try to burn off some of that food. I think I finally went to bed at 2:00.

I haven't had much to eat today. A peanut butter sandwich, a couple of handfuls of trail mix, and apple, and a hunk of leftover roast beef.

I was going to work in the yard all day today, and I did, but I didn't do either of my big tasks. I put off mowing the lawn. I was going to move an electrical cable. When the electricians ran power to the new shed, they buried a cable right across the middle of that part of the yard. I want to plant a tree right where the cable is, so I thought I'd dig it up, dig a new trench and move it. But when I dug down to where it is, I discovered that it's not a cable, it's in steel conduit. So now I'm mad at myself for not stopping them when they were digging, and having them route it off to the side. I'm not assertive enough with people like this. I saw the kid digging, and I wanted to tell him to do it elsewhere, but he'd already gotten part of the trench dug, and I wasn't certain about the three at that point. So now I have to put the tree closer to the concrete walk than I'd like.

Other than that, I just kinda putzed around the yard all day. Gaming was canceled. Cyn went to a wedding with a coworker in the late afternoon.

All those courses are just too much food, for us, too. Feeling so full you feel sick is not a fun thing to do.

I guess they have to put the wires inside strong casings these days. They do the same thing here now.

What kind of tree do you want?

At least I didn't have to eat very much the next day.

A beech tree. Silver bark and yellow fall leaves.

If it is in conduit, can you just plant where you want? Granted, if you had to dig up to fix the electric, it would maim or kill your tree, but honestly? I can't think of any reason that if you HAD a problem with the electric line that you could not then disconnect it from the house, dig a new line in and connect the new line to both house and shed. How big is the metal conduit? And... another question - METAL conduit for electric? That seems dangerous. They use two inch something plasticized here. PVC, or something made to go in the ground.

Yes, I should be able to plant near it. The roots will just grow around it. But I wanted to put it in the exact spot the conduit runs across.

I would assume there is some sort of seal on the conduits, to keep the water out.
