It was nice to get out. I haven't done that much this year. It was sunny and warm, so we took our cameras downtown so I could shoot a couple of historic sites. I haven't done that in a couple of years. Most of the photos remaining on my list had been taken by other people, but new sites have been added to the register.

We also stopped at a small, old cemetery that I just discovered. See it.

You are SO lucky to have a yard to play around in. I'm sure looking forward to when I can.

Does anyone maintain the cemetery? It is beautiful in an overgrown wild way, but those broken and or lost stones are sad.

This is me ravenfeather, lj won't let me comment while logged in.

I'm sure it's maintined by the city, though that is generally only mowing. As far as I can tell, cemeteries do little actual maintenace. I'm guessing they'll set fallen stones back up, if that's all it takes, but if it requires real work to reset them, they won't bother. I'm guessing they think it's the responsibility of the family of the deceased. And they can't do any actual repair of stones, like fixing breaks. Not unless it's a very old and historic cemetery. Even then it would probably be a private group doing a fundraiser.

Even logged in to ravensgarden it will not work. I am thinking it is not my journals that are the problem in this.

There must be more than a few lost graves at Mourning Souls. There's too much empty space for there not to be. Although it's obviously not a really popular place for burials. Is this a municipal cemetery of some small town or...?

We were in the Attleborough (where Malcolm lives in the UK) churchyard the other day and as is the custom there, many of the tombstones are all lined up on the outer perimeter of the cemetery when they topple over. So the graves are unmarked.

Follow the link to see everything I know about this cemetery.

It makes it hard to dig new graves if you don't know where the old ones are.

Somehow I missed it was in Mequon. Whereabouts? I used to know Mequon pretty well but this does not ring a bell at all.
I guess they don't bury anybody anymore in the Saint Mary's churchyard, Attleborough since most of the graves are now unmarked. There is a section fenced off for urns with ashes which is used these days

I've lived in this area for fifty years, and did research on cemeteries there, and I never knew it was there. Aside from the fact that there's no sign, it's not very visible from the road.

It's on Mequon Road, west of I43, and east of the Milwaukee River.
