So there are little hearts on our entries now, that we can use as "like" buttons.

I haven't seen them.

They're not in the "old style" friends page that those of us old-timers prefer to use, thankfully!

That is why I haven't seen them. Still in the *old style* as an *old timer*. LOL

You have an S2 style, so I see the hearts.

You have an old style journal page, but I see your entry/comment pages in default style, so they have hearts.

Thanks for letting me know, but I'll continue to be heartless. ;) See no hearts, give no hearts.

Yours is one of the few journals I've seen that don't have the hearts anywhere.

I have a very old version of LJ and refuse to change it ;)

If you like it, don't change it!

It takes an extra click to see them though. You have to click to comment. I was going to tell you I didn't see it on your post, but in comment mode - there it is.

Another old style user here so no such thing visible, for which I am eternally grateful. And since I also view everybody else in my own style I won't be liking anything anyway. This is not FB and real communication is what should happen here. Yes, I am a curmudgeon about this.

I figure we can ignore it just fine. But don't forget, there are people that you never hear from, whom you don't realize are reading your journal. Maybe this will be an excuse to realize they are reading.

Maybe...if LJ told me who did the liking. They just send a notice saying "Somebody liked...". Not sure if I can see who the somebodies are if I changed my journal style but I don't want to do that so I will be forever ignorant of my likers.
LOL

If you hover over the number that's next to the heart, it will show you the names, much like Fb does.

The people who liked this post are ones who don't comment to me very often, so it was kinda nice to see that they come around, at least occasionally.

but those of us who use old style can't even see the hearts unless we undo our security, make the post public and sign out. Only then are the hearts visible. Not worth it.

Yeah, I don't get them either, but I DID get that annoying circle that showed up in the old styles until they "fixed" it.

Did you read through any of the comments when they announced the change? I read through two pages, and did not see a single positive comment. Out of touch with their users comes to mind.

They're not on your journal page style, but your single-entry view seems to be the default page, which has the heart.

I'm kind of on the fence about the change. On the one hand, I like to think that we're better than that here, that we're thoughtful, and don't want the encouragement to write less. But on the other hand, we can ignore it just fine. Also, there are times that I like what I've read, but don't have anything to say. So I wouldn't mind having the option to respond wordlessly.

I suppose I understand that, in a way. I know that there are those on my list that prefer to respond, no matter what, and I can see why those people would like a like button. And yes, there are times when everything I would have said in an entry has already been said in comments, so I don't say anything, but I don't really have any "feelings" about that one way or another. I guess that is because I don't feel impelled to respond in lj.

The mobile version doesn't have hearts. I'll take a look on the PC version.

Yours also is devoid of hearts, either the journal page, or the entry/comment pages.

I clicked on "switch to new version" on my PC just so I could color the heart red ("like"). I don't really like the new version aesthetically, but I suppose I can get used to anything, given time.
