I went to the Wisconsin Highland Games yesterday. It was good. Hung out with friends, watched the events, shared whisky. Weird thing - I forgot my camera. A couple of people noticed this. One guy joked that he almost didn't recognize me. I didn't really miss it, though. Just once - at the heavy games. So just a few minutes worth of events. That wasn't really worth carrying it around all day.

I met a photographer contact I know from my Milwaukee group. He had asked the Games if he could shoot the Highland Dancers. They said yes but it would be his job. So he did that for most of the day... until he knocked his camera off the table. Broke the lens off its mount! He said it was about $6000 worth of gear, totaled. Fortunately it was insured.

I <3 the Highland Games. What is your favorite part?

The heavy games. The Scottish-ish food (haggis, Scotch eggs, corned beef, etc.). Whisky. Friends. Weapons and fighting demonstrations. Blacksmith demo. Pipes and drums.

Sorry I didn't answer sooner. I've been pretty tired after work. Um... I'm going to say pipe bands and drums with the massed being the cherry on top. The gent that leads the massed bands was my marching band director in high school so it brings a special warmth in my heart. He is and was one of my favorite people. After that would be everything else equally I guess. I just love every single minute of it from the dancing to the caber toss. I can't get enough of it. We don't have a blacksmith demo but I sure wish we did. I'm sure I'd love that too.

Yeah, the massed bands are good.

We have a few things that aren't strictly Scottish or Celtic. A local blacksmith comes out and does demos. There are a couple of guys who do demos on medieval combat - arms and armor and jousting and all that.

Here are all my photos of the gameses over the years: link (https://www.flickr.com/search/?user_id=14542870%40N03&sort=date-taken-desc&text=highland%20games&view_all=1)

The first time in years I won't see Highland Games pictures from you. Glad you had a good day!
