Had a reasonably productive weekend.

I fixed the dishwasher with $1.37 in hardware. A roller had broken off where the top rack rides on its track. We ordered the replacement parts, which cost about $40 with shipping, but they're not going to arrive until Friday. We can't go a whole week without a dishwasher (#firstworldproblems), so I stopped at the hardware store and picked up a bolt, nut and a couple of washers. Works just fine. So well I'm not sure I would have bothered to order the replacement parts. Well... I guess there are four more rollers that could break, so sure, I guess.

At the hardware store, when I went to pay, I discovered I had forgotten my wallet. They let me take the hardware anyway, and I can pay later. She attached it to my rewards card, so if I ever want to get any points again, or use any coupons, I'll pay it. Still rather nice of them. So then I stopped to get gas, and didn't remember that I had forgotten my wallet until I was just about ready to shut the car off. Duh!

Ran the fireplace all weekend (daytime), and split wood on Saturday. Cleaned up the shed a little bit. I'm looking forward to seeing if this has made a dent in our gas bill. It will be hard to say, since it's been such a warm winter.

Did a few other errands. Replaced windshield wipers, renewed car registration (emissions testing), went to the wine store, watched some Classic Trek.

We went out for a two-mile walk on Saturday. First time I've been on a walk in months, I think.

Last Thursday was a month since my surgery. Only minor issues with my back, as far as I can tell. One is that I still get some twinges in my leg when I bend over. They told me I'd have some nerve issues for a while after the surgery, so I guess that's normal and temporary. The other thing is that there's a lump in my back. Just above the incision, the fascia muscle sticks out a little. Doc says that's because it got rearranged a bit, and it should smooth out over time. Maybe a year. But I also get a tight feeling in that area - from there radiating outward toward my side. Almost like a stitch, but not as painful.

You have a nice hardware store!

And with all that activity you describe, I'd say your back operation is a success!
My friend who had that done says it takes 6 months to a year to lose all the side effects but they do go away.

Yeah, no question. I just wish I hadn't injured it in the first place, since I may have issues in the future. But I know I'm in great shape compared to a lot of people.

Congrats on the walk! How did it go, I mean I am assuming you were able to do it, but did you have any diminished speed or agility issues compared to before your back issues started?

No, no issues. Except maybe for being out of shape.

Funny thing is that I had to make a conscious effort to walk like I used to. With all the pain I had to do a kind of waddle. I had to kinda bring my left leg around, instead of swinging it straight forward. It's not hard to walk that way, I just have to remember to do it.

I understand that. I walk sideways to compensate for the lymphedema damage in my knees and hips. I have not really broken it down, because it does not bother me enough to do so, but I face forward, it is just my lower body that I turn.
