Today, we started out at the chapel on the hill at Calvary cemetery. It was the first time it had been open to the public in possibly forever. It had suffered some heavy vandalism in the eighties (or was it the nineties?). The statuary was smashed, among other things, and it was boarded up ever since. So it was interesting to see inside it after all these years. Not too much to look at, but my favorite of the day. link. We also went into the crypt downstairs. When we came out it was raining, so we got wet on the way back to the car.

We drove east, and ended up wasting ten or fifteen minutes on a detour because the downtown exits were closed due to the Susan Komen walk. And then we had trouble finding parking for the same reason. So we had a fairly long walk to the McIntosh Goodrich Mansion, which is now the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music. It's a beautiful building on the outside, so I was excited to be able to go inside, but it wasn't all that exciting on the inside. All the rooms have been converted to practice spaces, except the performance space and a sitting room. We did go up on the roof, though, for a better view of the marina.

It was a long walk back down, but we stopped at the Robert Burns monument for a few minutes. A couple of blocks later we passed the Presbyterian Church. Pretty boring inside, but they had some nice stained glass. more blocks to the Women's Club of Wisconsin. Fancy spaces and furnishings.

By then, it was almost 1:00, and we were getting really hungry, so we went up to County Clare. I had the full Irish breakfast. It brought back memories of Scotland, since it was basically same meal, but with a few extras. eggs, bacon (ham), sausages, black pudding and "white pudding" (more sausage), fried potato pieces, broiled tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms (skipped), a little fruit cup and a heavy slice of oat bread or something. I had a Bloody Maire (with a sausage stick, cheese stick, two olives and pickled potato. And the obligatory beer chaser. So I was stuffed.

Then we went to nearby St. Paul's Episcopal church. It houses the largest collection of Tiffany windows in the state, and the largest window Tiffany ever created. Really beautiful. The non-Tiffany windows too. I'd seen it before, but was happy to have seen it again.

And then we left. But we decided there was time to stop at The Weld Guy on the way home. It's a machine shop with artists. But a machine shop that's not actually working is not all that interesting, and the art there wasn't all that much to see. And then we left.

We came home. I had the guys over for gaming. I had some pizza, even though I wasn't really hungry after that humongous lunch.
