We took friday off work to go to my mom's family reunion in Indiana. We left after lunch on friday, and went to Lynda and Mike's. We hung out for a while, then went to dinner, then went to see Lynda's daughter in a play. She stole the show as the female lead in the musical version of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels.

We were up early the next morning to hit the road for the reunion. Got a bit of a late start, and people were finishing up with lunch by the time we got there. We had planned on a noon arrival, but the thing starts at 11:00. A few people were leaving as we got there (going to The Brickyard). But it was good to see and talk with most of them.

On the way down, it was 3-1/2 hours to Valpo, and 3 the rest of the way. On the way back, it was 5-2/3 hours. Cyn drove for a bit so I could nap.

On long trips like that, it's convenient to fall in behind someone and stay there for a long time. Or maybe someone will follow you. Or you might pass each other back and forth. I was hanging with someone for about an hour, leaving Indy. Coincidentally we stopped at the same gas station. It was a woman in a little gray car with Florida plates, and two medium sized dogs. After we left, I was thinking I should have gone over and said hi to her dogs (or asked if it was okay). About three hours later, as we were nearing Wisconsin I passed her. A little while later, when we were crawling along in construction traffic, I passed her again. She had the windows down, and the dogs were looking out. I think it would have been pretty funny to roll my car over, and say hi to the dogs again.

There was another car that was hanging with us in Wisconsin, that I saw again south of Chicago.

Driving in California is like that, especially on Interstate 5 that goes the whole length of the state. On long, boring drives I have to pinch myself to stay awake, or entertain myself by noticing the repetition of other cars I pass (or as they pass me).

There's not a whole lot else for the driver to look at, is there? Either because it's not safe to rubberneck the scenery, or because we've seen it before.

"The Jackal" is a great part, good to hear is is being played on the stage.

I SO would have spoken to the woman and the dogs. Funny how driving works like that. Even down to LR (only about two hours but on a high traffic road) you tend ho hang in a group.

T did a great job with the part. All the different personas of the character. There were two or three other decent actors onstage (including the guy who was channeling Jerry Lewis), but she was the one who transcended community theater.

One time, we followed somebody for about an hour and a half, coming back from up north, and they ended up a few blocks away from our house.

HA! Well, as long as they were visiting or belonged where they ended up!

I wonder if they noticed that we were behind them the whole way, and wondered if we were following them.

Isn't it sad that paranoia is something you HAVE to at least consider in this day and age?

The woman with the dogs, zoomed by me shortly before the exit, and I followed her right off. Not sure if she wondered about that. But we left the gas station before she did, so if she was nervous, hopefully she was okay after that. Or maybe she wasn't nervous because she had dogs. Or maybe she thinks I didn't try anything because when we got to the station, I saw her dogs. ;-)

Since we do many looong road trips, yes...we notice people who "accompany" us all the time. And it's funny if we stop for a pit stop and see our road friends stop at the same places.
Or we stop and then catch up with others we've seen.
:)
So people were there just from 11-12? That's a short reunion!

We didn't get there until almost 12:30. The first leavers were gone a little before 1:00, since it took so long to say goodbye to everybody. And these are people who live in the area.

Actually it was shorter than usual. Sometimes we don't leave until 5:00, but this time it seemed like things were winding down by 3:00. We didn't leave until after 4:00, though.

Going to that reunion must have been a little hard for Cindy though I know that the stopover with Lynda and Mike was fun.

I was glad to go to the reunion! I had a CD of their family love stories that I wanted to share with them. It was great to see everyone after two years. They're all so nice to me with lots of hugs and condolences. That was just what I needed. :)

Hehe, I love "hanging out" with other cars on long drives. :)
