A celebrity espouses an opinion that is distasteful to many people, and is fired for it. The conservatives complain that everyone has a right to state his opinion, and he shouldn't be shamed for it. Or the liberals demand that the celebrity apologize, and the conservatives complain that the liberals demand everybody "coexist" while simultaneously saying that conservatives are wrong.

Well here's how it works. Liberals demands for peace are not wrong. Unreasonable, maybe, but not wrong. On the other hand, negative opinions about homosexuality are hurtful. They are bullying. In this respect, those opinions are wrong.

So the Jews were wrong for opposing the opinions of the Nazis? This is Germany. Love it or leave it, right?

I used to get e-mail forwards about how back in the day, we used to ride around without seat belts, and we used to climb trees, and our playground equipment wasn't designed for safety and we lived through it just fine! I sometimes replied, "yeah WE lived..."

I hesitate to call Rob Ford a celebrity but, he shouldn't state his opinion any time. It most cases it causes a law suit ;)

Your comment says "What do you think?" I think the man is an idiot. Yes, he has a right to say what he thinks but that, said in public, was just... wrong. I truly hope his popularity quotient drops to zero, but I know it won't.

Should he have been fired? I don't know. Maybe he offended someone higher up. They could have just let him bury himself.

I don't know that he should have been fired. While people in the office may be personally offended by that view, he didn't say it on the show. And they knew he was religious when they hired him, I would think.

How is that religious? Acceptance and understanding is religious. That was pure hate.

Well, you're right. But he fits a certain profile. Southern redneck religious types. "Bible thumper" in his own words. If they were that concerned about it, why let them on the air on the first place?

Hopefully this too shall pass. It's the American Way, I guess...
