Grafton always holds their fireworks show on the saturday before the 4th of July. This year, they moved the celebration to a different park. They have bands, and rides and beer, and all that. But the fireworks themselves were launched from the parking lot at the elementary school. There's a lot of flat land all around it. But they didn't advertise very well, exactly where they were launching from. So we grabbed a blanket, and wandered down the street until we saw the launch site. We sat down in the nearest empty field. Only about two dozen other people were in the whole area with us. We were practically under the fireworks.

Wide angle lens, to get my feet and the fireworks.

Cute little girl.

Lots of launch tubes.

I have a horrible time trying to photograph fireworks. These are great!

It takes a lot of practice to figure out. And I never really have figured it out - I just get lucky.

I like the feet in the first one & I like the last one, too. :-)

I'm sorry for the town that they didn't have much of a turn out.

Most of the town was at Centennial Park where the fireworks were advertised. Because the fireworks were being launched in a new place (behind the elementary school close to Centennial Park), nobody had a "spot" that they go to every year already planned out. I saw lots of people wandering around, wondering where the best place to view is. I bet next year our spot will be jammed with people.

Yeah. We passed a lot of people on the way down. And I think there were a lot of people on the other side of the building. They were there, just not in the best spots.

Yeah, it did seem a bit early. Seems like they used to always start at 9:30, when there's still a bit of light in the sky, but this year it was 9:15. And I think they used to do 10:00, several years ago.

You look remarkably mosquito free laying on the grass like that. The darn things are vicious here this year. I can't do fireworks shots well myself. I loke the way you caught the last one.

It was both chilly and windy. Notice the fireworks in the first picture show motion blur from the wind.

HA! We once wandered into a small town fireworks event similar to what you describe. Not many people. Fireworks being launched from a school parking lot. Only problem we had was when they were fired, we were so close the ash and charcoal from the explosions rained down on us. The kid was small, and that stuff BURNED, so we made a mad dash away.

A few years ago, some friends went with us to our usual spot. It was one of the few times that the wind was moving towards us. Ash rained on us. The woman went to stand under a tree. Nothing was still burning, though she was worried about it.

For this one, I saw a few sparks hit the road (which was behind us), a little ways down from us - the wind wasn't moving directly toward us.
