After a horribly busy May, June hasn't been so bad. But I haven't posted in two weeks, I guess because nothing's happening.

Except gardening. I post about twice a day, in my gardening journal. I'm still trying to get the vegetable garden in. I'm still not certain it's going to happen, or actually work.

It's finally summer, being around 80°. The sun is hot. I love it! Cindy took her mom to the museum today. I'm wondering if gaming is on. Haven't heard from Greg or Drewski.

We went out to eat with some friends of mine, last night. Aaron, Keith and Steve. Met Steve's girlfriend, Joanna.

Did a Scotch tasting last weekend. It was a blind tasting, so that was fun. I came up with a good selection. One of the whiskies was the recreation of the whisky discovered under the hut of Ernest Shackleton's failed antarctic expedition. It was fabulous.

I trimmed my beard. It's a Van Dyke. Not a goatee, because that's without a moustache, which I think looks dumb. I hope I didn't just insult any of my readers. This was the first change I've made to my facial hair since I first grew the beard, when I was 20.

Work has been going okay.

Got most of our reservations made for the Scotland trip, including plane tickets, ferry reservations, B&B's and some distillery tours.

That's about it.

I've heard about that whiskey! That is so rad. Is it hard to get?

Most places don't have it, but the places that do have it... have it. Does that help? Um, the places that have it, have lots?

I just checked a few of my usual sources, and all but one has it. Over $150. At $100, I'd buy more than one. At $150, I'm glad I had some people to go in with, even if I only had a little bit.

Ahh...that's a decent "really nice gift" price. Like, for someone who will share with me, like my husband.

Awesome!!

Here's what I wrote about it on a whisky forum...

It's not what you might expect from a one hundred year old whisky. Definitely not unrefined, or even bold. It's very complex, and subtle. The peat, for example, is... soft. There's a layer of it, floating somewhere. I get a distinct spatial impression of where the peat is, which is impossible (if you understand my imagery). I don't recall tasting another whisky like this one, meaning I can't think of another whisky with a similar flavor profile.

The packaging doesn't increase the dollar value for me, but it's awsome! A wooden box packed with straw, the bottle wrapped in paper. The bottle and label are of sub-par production values, to match the original bottles. Very cool.

I saw Cyn's post about your beard trimming and think it looks great. Anything in particular prompt you to make the change?

No. I'd been wanting to do it for a couple of years. Never got around to it.

You look good with the Van Dyke!
What are the dates of your Scottish trip?

And why did I not know you had a garden journal? Where is it?

I'm watching your garden LJ now!

That's good, cause I've been watching your garden.

Aside from the pretty pictures, I write there mostly just to keep track of what happens when, and also what I've done. Not real exciting to the average viewer.

I dunno...I might not be the average viewer.

The only way to truly enjoy the Shackleton scotch is when you've just gotten back inside from the -20 degrees F cold.

Ooh, what do you have planned in Scotland? Check out Dalhousie Castle if you can; on site falconry, restaurant in the dungeon, resident ghosts (even a dog ghost) and an amazing history that includes Mary, Queen of Scots. We stayed there a night and it was by far the best money we've ever spent! It's do beautiful :) the Scottish Sea Bird center was awesome too. Have fun!!!

Thanks, but we won't be making it out that way. Edinburgh, Galashiels, Dumfries, Ayrshire, Glasgow, Islay, Orkney, Duffton. We had to work really hard to fit all that in two weeks!
