I went down to the near south side to buy a vintage camera from a guy. He had a large wooden "robot" outside the front of his house. I pushed the doorbell button in its robot frame, and a little kid answered the door and told me he was out. He had run to the post office to mail a package, so he'd be back soon. We drove around a while, and came back. I pulled up, watching the street for the best place to park, and Cyn said, "a hearse. He must be home." Yep, I'd say that's his.

He collects cameras. He had a set of shelves on the wall with at least fifty cameras in it. Mostly vintage rangefinders, but some interesting more-modern film cameras. He had a big 4x5 view camera on what looked like an expensive vintage tripod. And a house crammed with crap. His wife wasn't too thrilled with the size of his collection, apparently, and he had to trim it down a bit.

Funny, I was just talking about that with Cyn. He'd told me he had more cameras available, if I was interested. I'm not. I don't take cool stuff, just because it's cool stuff, anymore. This camera is a stereo camera, so there's a clear purpose.

The robot looks like rusted metal...
and a hearse. That's hilarious. He must be a slightly odd character.
LOL

He was a really nice guy. Didn't seem weird at all.

"Weird" doesn't mean he's not nice (not in my vocabulary, anyway).
:)

No, weird is a good thing. But the whole time we were talking to him, there was no hint of eccentricity that might indicate he drove a hearse or built a giant robot in the front of his house.

You should have seen the green place next door. They had all kinds of stuff out front. I don't remember whatall, but there was a little golden dragon on the peak of the roof, with a surveillance camera behind it, and a gargoyle on another peak, and a street sign designating their yard as somethingorother street...
