I told someone I could place midwest accents. She thought I meant "a midwest accent." No, I meant specific. Like, "Fort Wayne area." Or "North of Chicago."

Honestly, I can't do this often. But I've done it.

That's a skill.

I wish it were a useful one.

Do you think there are different accents for different areas of wi or even milwaukee itself? In your opinion, why do you think I have a thicker, more MN. sort of accent than my sisters?

Definitely. Though I'm not sure how much of it is ethnic, and how much is purely locational.

No, I don't think it's Minnesotaish at all. I haven't met any Minnesotans that have a strong accent at all.

I was asked if I was from Minnesota by a waiter once. I hear "milwaukee accents" better when I'm listening to them on the radio rather than in person but couldn't place a certain locale. Just that it's thick or not so thick.

All the Minnesotans I've known have only a slight accent. I think yours is kinda medium strength.

So what are ours?

I thought about you when I wrote this post, but I've never really listened closely. Just going by memory, Robert sounds Indianan, but you don't.

Very good since I was born and lived in Pennsylvania until I was a senior in high school. :^)

Your accent is more noticeable to me, because I'm used to Indiana accents. And I can't think of meeting any Pennsylvanians before, so I wouldn't have recognized it even if I was paying attention - or remembered where you were from.

My *accent* shouldn't be noticeable since I have lived in Pa., Indiana (for eons now), and Illinois, plus spending summers in Michigan... should it?

Some people's change more slowly than others. Some are set for life. Some people pick up new accents easily.
