The tasting went well, last night.

After spending a good chunk of my time in the last couple of weeks, and good part of saturday afternoon getting ready for it, it finally happened. Due to our budget, we really needed all 30 people to show up. And we didn't want to go over, since we weren't sure how far the whisky would go. It was a struggle, all the way through, to get the right number of people. We finally got it settled at 30, a couple of weeks ago, but the day before the event, two people had to drop out. So we scrambled to find replacements, and ended up with three. We guessed we'd be okay with one extra, but we ended up one short, since one guy (who already paid) was stuck home with a sick kid, and another never e-mailed me to tell me he couldn't make it.

Everyone who was there had a great time. They said it was organized well, and the information was good. The newbies learned a lot, I think. They had good questions. Most of the attendees were well-behaved. One group got a little rowdy a couple of times. Audience participation was... adequate. We always try to get people to discuss what they taste, with the group. It's usually a bit of a struggle. I kinda have to walk around and listen to what they say amongst themselves, and then bring that up to the group.

My voice was pretty rough, since I was speaking to a large group all night. I left at 1 am, and didn't feel as exhausted as I usually do after a high-energy thing like that. I don't know what they mean when they say alcohol is a depressant. ;-) Today, though, I've been kinda slow.

We had seven whiskies for the tasting. Four of them were from silent stills, which means the distilleries were closed. So it was pretty cool to get to try them.

Anyway, it was a lot of fun.

very nice

Sounds like you did a really nice job; and the photo looking down on the whiskey was really neat.

What is special about the MacPhail in the snifter glass?

Thanks!

That is a Glencairn style glass. It was designed specifically for Scotch, and most people say it's the best glass for it. We had just enough Glencairns for one each, so we put the first whisky in it. If people so desired, when they finished one, they could rinse it and drink the next one from it.
